From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for a Dark Christmas) is the second classical and Christmas album, and the seventh studio album released by the Finnish soprano Tarja Turunen.

With the album release comes also Tarja Turunen's first graphic novel, From Spirits and Ghosts (Novel for a Dark Christmas). The 40-page novel is about the world of dark Christmas with accompanying art by Conor Boyle. The "novel for a dark Christmas" revolves around Tarja's two characters, the dark and light one, bringing together lonely souls during the festive season.

The album has been critically acclaimed by critics and fans alike, who have noted the dark twist Turunen achieved on the album and the combination of different languages; however, critics have commented that the album will be largely forgotten after the Christmas holidays.

Rare Futures is a GrooveRock band from New York City (previously known as Happy Body Slow Brain). Now Rare Futures and Gavin Castleton have joined forces to form the musical voltron, FUTURECASTLE, and reinterpret four songs by golden-era artists: Sade, Chicago, Hall & Oates, and Roland Orzabal from Tears For Fears. The FutureCastle EP is a collection of covers respectfully arranged and performed fusing both artists unique styles.

Willy Mercier

Willy Mercier hails from Mercury, France with a concept album.
It retraces the initiatory journey of a character who, lost in a seemingly bottomless fall, will unexpectedly discover another vision of the scenery by a symbolic gesture of comfort. This work, written in 2001 and released April 29, 2017, is finally resurrected thanks to the collaboration of about thirty musicians, technicians and artists. "Les Ornements de l'Insolence", a narrative, out-of-time, non-coded album, is carried by music inspired by various influences (Gainsbourg, Pink-Floyd, Sigur Ròs, The Verve or Bashung).

What may come will always be an unforeseeable blessing, a gleam of life that he transcribe each time he connect with an instrument. Be it on the piano or the guitar, it always remains as something magical and it is what he treasures the most.

Last Knight

Last Knight is a international music project. The different musicians collaborate through internet in the recording sessions coordinated by spanish producer/songwriter Jose Manuel Medina. Originally was created in 1997 with the porpouse of write instrumental music. Last Knight project makes a fusion between different music styles. It is oriented to an audience that loves music in every way. "Talking to the Moon" is a concept album plenty of stories about the moon and the relationship with the man. It's a modern symphony on which every musician print his own musical vision. Deluxe edition with sixty songs all related to the night and the Moon. Coordinated by Jose Manuel Medina as main producer and presented by David Rohl as executive producer. It combines vast orchestral music with progressive rock, new age, celtic music, classical, ambient, pop, hard rock, etc... Seven years were needed to complete the production of the entire album. With an approximate duration of 227 minutes, the collection has a great variety of musical colors. The combination of musicians from very different styles gave rise to the immortalization of beautiful musical landscapes throughout.

Ergot Project

Ergot Project is the brainchild of Sardinian bassist and producer Christian Marras: it’s a ‘collective’ open to various artistic expressions, meant to have as its sole purpose the total creative anarchy in the creation of new musical productions. Ergot Project is therefore a kind of ‘factory’ where the working group, directed and supervised by Christian Marras, varies continuously as needed, allowing to expand the boundaries of art and sound experimentation.

On this occasion Ergot Project consists of Christian Marras (Chapman Stick and art direction), Daniela Pes (vocals), Richard Nieddu (guitars), Daniele Pala (drums), Roberto Schirru (drums, synth and programming), Eros Cristiani (Fender Rhodes, synths and programming), Andrea Pica (mix and mastering). The artwork was made by Ombretta Salis.

Curiosity and the desire to deconstruct some historical songs by The Beatles has led to the release of the Project’s debut album, “Beat-less”, in yet another demonstration of the fact that the Fab Four’s compositions are timeless works, that can be adapted and arranged in any musical context. Despite its name, this record finds in the beat, intended as ‘rhythm’, one of its strengths. Melodies and choruses remain perfectly recognizable of course, but everything that revolves around them has been completely revisited in a very personal heavy-electro-prog key. An unexpected and interesting tribute, which amazes at each listen!

"films" is a dark fantasy music unit which is centred around two female vocalists who sing in their own originally created languages. They make creative and beautiful music using the classical sounds of piano and stringed instruments, often blending them with electric, destructive rhythms.

They debuted by releasing their first album 'Messenger' in 2010, followed with their second album 'a forbidden garden' in 2013. In November 2016, films released their third album, 'signs from the past'.

Doris Brendel

"Not Utopia", a magical collaboration between acclaimed singer/song-writer Doris Brendel and Lee Dunham, producer and multi-instrumentalist.

Robert Haglund

Now this is curious stuff, I know. Robert Haglund's solo debut album "I Wanna Be Somebody".

Haglund is a Swedish vocalist better known as one of the The Fantastic Four, a popular Swedish vocal quartet which revisit soul, blues, jazz standards and where he plays bass also.
But for his debut Haglund has chosen to cover some hard rock classics in a jazzy mood helped by some well known Rock musicians.

You have Coverdale / Whitesnake staple 'Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City' done in a very slow mood by Haglund crooner vocals helped by Sweden's most famous jazz singer Svante Thuresson in harmony vocals, obtaining an atmosphere proper from a New York intimate jazz club.
Then there's an almost unrecognizable cover of Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' where Bruce Kulick (KISS) provides a great acoustic guitar solo.

Next it's time for a groovy version of 'Don't Believe a Word' (Thin Lizzy) and it's a highlight because Tony Harnell (ex TNT / Skid Row) sings various verses and his vocals are a-we-some. Additionally Kulick delivers another fantastic solo, this time full electric.
It's fun to hear Twisted Sister's 'The Price' done in a ballad form with the presence of Kee Marcello (ex Europe) on guitar, or DIO's 'Holy Diver' going acoustic (!) but it works, believe me.

Other tune is 'You Give Love a Bad Name' (Bon Jovi) as its big-band arrangement fits greatly with the song.
Kulick again and Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot) appear for a very melodic, bluesy take on Kiss' classic 'Love Gun', and for the end Cinderella's drummer Fred Coury collaborate with a rockin' (in this album terms) version of 'Ice Cream Man' (made popular by Van Halen).

It's a lot of fun, and most of these re-arranged classics really work on this format. I'll pass on Motorhead's 'Ace Of Spades', but even with its big-band feeling WASP's 'I Wanna Be Somebody' results enjoyable.

This record turns more and more addictive the more you listen to it...

Robert Haglund

20last Century

Ein felsenfestes Rockfundament ist die Grundlage von 20last Century, dazu mischen sie Reggae-, Funk-, und Folk-Elemente. Mit einer Prise Revolution in den Texten ergibt das ein extrem kontrastreiches Set. Live wird mit voller Kraft aufs Gas gedrückt, um dann plötzlich alternative Klangwelten zu erschaffen. Stilsicher und experimentierfreudig produzieren sie Songs, die überraschen und eingehen. Sie nehmen die Musik ernst, nicht aber sich selbst. Auch gesellschaftskritischere Texte kommen mit einem Augenzwinkern daher.

 

Die vier Musiker Bernhard Kuzel, Pete Ionian, Ralph Suppan und Gopal Aberer aus Vorarlberg spielen seit 2013 in dieser Formation. Neues Material wird von allen gemeinsam erarbeitet, manche Songs begleiten sie aber auch schon seit Jahren. Die Musiker konnten im Ländle bereits mit Bands wie Out Of Frame, Slang, Harris Haare, Karamasow oder Parasol auf sich aufmerksam machen. Nun wurden die Kräfte gebündelt, um ein neues, eigenständiges Zeitalter einzuläuten: 20last Century.

Neuschnee

Neuschnee – Crossover Kammermusik aus Wien.

Die treibende Kraft ihrer Musik sind die Stimme und unbestechlich ehrliche Poesie Hans Wagners, eingebettet in die Klang- und Ausdruckskraft eines kunstvoll arrangierten Streichquartetts. Während das Quartett musikalisch führt, gesellen sich ein sensibel bis druckvoll eingesetztes Schlagzeug, BassSynth und elektronische Klänge dazu – stets dienend, um den Worten ein musikalisches Gewand zu leihen. Die musikalischen Einflüsse der Band reichen von der Renaissancemusik bis zum Grunge-Rock und so spannen auch ihre Lieder einen weiten Bogen von kunstsinnig bis roh, zerbrechlich bis ungestüm-wild. Ihre Konzerte überzeugen durch eine große Bandbreite aus zarten und wilden Momenten, die mal überraschen, mal provozieren, und mal auch einfach nur schön sind.

Das Album „Schneckenkönig“ ist ein wundersames Popmärchen und eine Metapher für den Um- und Aufbruch im Leben eines Menschen. Es beschreibt die Reise eines rastlosen Königs durch sein aus dem Gleichgewicht geratenes Reich. Sie beginnt im irdischen „Hotel zum Paradies“ in einem der kleinen Zimmer mit großer Aussicht und endet in den großen Weiten des Universums. Auf der Suche nach der Antwort auf die Frage, ob „nicht Sinn sondern Bewegung über allem thront“, trifft er unterwegs auf andere rastlose Gestalten, deren Geschichen ihm neue Hoffnung geben.

Dort, wo diese Geschichten auf die Musik von Neuschnee treffen, verschmelzen auf „Schneckenkönig“ Text und Musik, Inhalt und Form zu einer Synthese, die einen Schritt über die traditionell eng geschnürten Grenzen des Popsong-Formats hinausgeht. Dieses lässt die Band immer stärker hinter sich und so entwickeln sich die Stücke des dritten Albums ganz organisch hin zu Kompositionen, ohne dabei auf eingängige Melodien und musikalische Zugänglichkeit zu verzichten. Das Album ist schon beim ersten Hören greifbar, erlaubt aber auch nach mehrmaligem Hören noch überraschende, neue Details zu entdecken.
Vielschichtig, detailreich, und doch schwebend und leicht zugleich – wie frisch gefallener Schnee.
Stilistisch werden die Lieder in verschiedenste musikalische Gewänder gekleidet: Es trifft Elektro auf Kammermusik (Schneckenkönig, Blatt im Wind), auf Rock (Des Kaisers neue Kleider, das große Vielleicht), auf Ballade (Nimm mich mit, wenn du gehst, Seemann ohne Schiff), auf Klassik (La Folia, Planeten). Zusammengehalten und bestimmt wird die Musik dabei durch den Gesang, die Texte und den charakteristischen Klang der Streicher.

Auf seinem Weg erkennt der König schon bald, dass Glück kein äußeres Ziel, sondern ein innerer Zustand ist – und damit vor allem eine Frage der Einstellung. Wenn er also am Ende seiner langen Reise im Weltall ankommt und das letzte Stück des Albums mit Chor, Bläsern und orchestralen Streichern episch ausklingt, wird klar: Schmerz und Freude sind auf einer tieferen Ebene miteinander verwoben und diese Erkenntnis beunruhigt nicht nur, nein, sie macht auch Sinn – und sie tröstet, ungemein.
Das Album markiert eine sehr prägende Zeit im Leben des Sängers.
Als Erinnerung daran (und als tatsächlicher Hinweis für Ärzte, dass die inneren Organe spiegelverkehrt liegen) hat er sich die medizinische Bedeutung des Wortes Schneckenkönig „Situs Inversus“ in seine Haut stechen lassen.

"misty9" ist das Ergebnis der Zusammenarbeit von Panagiótis Spyrópoulos (Gitarrist) und Níki Graná (Gesang, Klavier).

So hatten sie mehrere Live-Auftritte und veröffentlichten einen einzigen Videoclip im Jahr 2015 ("waiting for the sun").

Im Sommer 2015 wurde die Band mit dem Schlagzeuger Ntínos Xarchákos komplettiert und setzte die Segel für die Aufnahme und Veröffentlichung ihrer ersten EP "unite".

Mit ästhetischen musikalischen Klängen, nicht unbedingt auf eine bestimmte Art von Musik beschränkt, ist "unite" ist eine mehrdimensionale EP, flirtet mit Alternative-Rock und Trip-Hop, schlägt aber auch progressive Wege ein, immer elektrisch und mit nostalgischen Motiven kombiniert.

Hazmat Modine

Hazmat Modine draws from the rich soil of American music of the 20's and 30's through to the 50's and early 60's, blending elements of early Blues, Hokum Jugband, Swing, Klezmer, New Orleans R & B, and Jamaican Rocksteady. The band is fronted by two harmonicas which use call and response, harmony, melody, and syncopated interweaving rhythms. The band includes tuba, guitar, and percussion, claviola and Hawaiian steel guitar. The band's sound reflects musical influences ranging from Avant-garde Jazz to Rockabilly and Western Swing to Middle-Eastern, African, and Hawaiian musical styles.

Hazmat Modine plays the kind of Blues one might have found in a barrelhouse in New Orleans had the city been inhabited by gypsies who performed with Otis Redding and the city had been built on the Black Sea. The band is driven by harmonicas, tuba, drums, guitars, Banjo and a full horn section. Guests play such exotic instruments as the Romanian cimbalom, the banjitar, and the Claviola. Front man Wade Schuman has the appropriately throaty voice of someone who has both hopped freight trains and collaborated with the Throat Singers of Tuva. For the past eight years, the band has been touring in over 40 countries worldwide. They have collaborated/performed with a vast range of artists including Bombino, Kronos Quartet, Cat Empire, the Gangbe Brass band from Benin, and Natalie Merchant.

The title track from their first album "Bahamut", released in 2007, was recently used in the 3D film Pina by Wim Wenders, and currently in a performance by Pina Bausch and the Stuttgart Ballet.

Their second album "Cicada" in 2011 was awarded the Charles Cross award in France for best blues album of the Year, and topped number one on the World Music Charts in Europe.

Returned 2014 on disc with an hour of pure music on their "Live" album. 8 live tracks made over the last 10 years in 5 countries.

There new studio album "Extra-Deluxe-Supreme" is again released on Jaro records in 2015.

The Jaunting Martyrs is a San Francisco/Bay Area cross-genre band that combines elements of Rockabilly, Gypsy Swing, Surf, Blues, and good ol' Rock 'n' Roll. The elements of story telling, poetry, references to folklore, literary history, and current events in the lyricism and the eclectic nature of this group produces music that is unique and yet relatable. From the cross-genre sound & tight musicianship, to the handmade custom designed costumes, to the DIY merch & posters of original art, to the surprise guest appearances of clown acts & sideshow freaks at shows, to the collaborative addition of varying local horn players... This band puts on a multi-dimensional show like no other.

The band started out as a circus band for various troupes along the West Coast. In 2009 - after traveling up and down the west coast providing sound tracks for trapeze, Juggling, clowning, aerial, fire acts, and sidesho - Martyrs Brendan, Justine, & Justin stabalized in SF/Bay Area to focus on developing their sound as a band. Two years later they joined forces with music scholar clown guitarist Carlos and eclectic multi-instrumentalist burlesque drummer Jimi to form an epic all-star circus band under the name The Jaunting Martyrs. The band name refers to "The Excursion of the Jaunting Martyrs on Mars", an intergalactic sound piece Justine was mailing off at the SFO airport for a space music scholarship the day she met Brendan on a train (2006).

.sPout. war eine österreichische Crossover-Band aus Wolfsberg (Kärnten).

Die Band wurde 1998 vom Sänger und Gitarristen Aaron Schüssler gegründet, als er in seiner Wohnung die ersten Songs mit dem PC aufnahm. Mit den beendeten Aufnahmen konnte er sich auf die Suche nach den Musikern machen. Im Juli 2006 stieg Gitarrist und Songwriter René Juri zugunsten seines Studiums aus der Band aus, nachdem schon DJ Jookie (Mario Frajuk) im März die Band nach fünf Jahren Mitgliedschaft verlassen hatte. Unter anderem spielte die Band im Vorprogramm von Machine Head (Wien), Life of Agony (Wien), Die Happy (Rock am Bach) und den H-Blockx (Donauinselfest). Außerdem gab es bereits eigene Tourneen durch Großbritannien, Deutschland, Österreich und Italien sowie einen Auftritt auf der Popkomm 2003 in Köln und den zweiten Platz beim Yamaha Band Contest in Wien.
Das letzte Album „We’re Going Straight to Hell“ erschien am 20. April 2007 erneut auf dem bandeigenen Label ruff.tunes records (im Vertrieb von edel).
2009 verließ der Bassist Manfred Sattler die Band und wurde nach einigen Monaten durch David Schwarz ersetzt.

Im Jänner 2012 gab die Band bekannt, dass sie sich auflösen wird.
