The Natural Mystic

The Natural Mystic are another young band from the rich Italian scene. The influence of the "Rock Progressivo Italiano" is evident - the band is often citing soundscapes from the movement's heyday, their sound will love every fan of 70's prog - and yet they're highly innovative, fresh and quite unique.

Initially, they were a trio formed around early 2000: Pacho, the percussionist, Dile ( Mauro Di Lella ) the guitarist and Zamaun on guitars, vocals and bass were all already experienced musicians that were participating in various Italian art rock bands. Angel (on flutes, keys and guitar), Peg (bass, flute, keys, percussion) and Galbo (guitars, percussion) joined the band later, completing the picture.

Comparing this guys to Yes, Genesis and Camel won't help you a lot, indeed the sound of 70's symphonic prog is evident, but their smooth textures are defying easy categorization; there's also a hint of early King Crimson and evident Jethro Tull throw in for a good measure, and their sound is their own.

Their one and only album so far "Mother nature, the trees and the magic of seasons" consists of four long suites dealing with seasons and was already released in 2006, but I have to say this is a highly recommended band.

Exedra is an Italian progressive metal/rock band from Taranto, Italy.

Sad to say they have only released one brilliant album in 2012 entitled "Apeiron".

Dice

Dice ist eine deutsche Progressive Rock-Band, die 1974 in Gütersloh gegründet wurde und 1977 nach Frankfurt am Main umzog. 1992 reaktivierte Komponist, Sänger und Bandleader Christian Nóvé die Band in Leipzig. Seit 1995 bis heute veröffentlicht Dice jedes Jahr eine neue CD.

Dice besteht in der Urbesetzung schon seit 1974 und wurde von Christian Nóvé (g, voc), Andreas Schattschneider (g), Gerd Brummel (dr) und Norbert Schultze (effects) gegründet. 1979 erschien die erste LP mit Musikern wie Alto Pappert (ex-Kraan) und George Kochbeck (ex-Joachim Kühn). 1983 folgte das Album Live-Dice, welches auch als Picture Disc erschien. Seit 1997 bringt die Band jedes Jahr ein Album heraus. Nach eigenen Angaben ist die Musik von Bands wie Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Eloy, IQ, aber auch Marillion oder The Flower Kings beeinflusst. Den größten Erfolg feierte Dice vor etwa 3000 Fans beim Münchner Theatron MusikSommer Open-Air-Festival. Die Live-Aufnahmen zu diesem Konzert wurden sowohl auf CD als auch DVD veröffentlicht. 2014 feierte die Band drei Jubiläen. Dice wurde vor 40 Jahren gegründet: Zuerst spielte man ganz ohne Bassisten, aber kurz darauf kamen ein Saxofonist und dann auch noch ein zweiter Schlagzeuger hinzu. (Beim dritten Auftritt in Gütersloh 1975 wurde versuchsweise auch einmal ein bekannter Bassist von einer anderen Band ausgeliehen.) Des Weiteren ist die CD Twentaurus ihr zwanzigstes Album. Das dritte Jubiläum galt ganz dem Gitarrist Peter Viertel, der seit 2004 hier auf seinem 10. Dice-Studio-Album zu hören ist. 2015 erschien das 21. Album Son.Sister.Sun. Das Cover entstand aus vier Bildern, die 1978 von Freunden Nóvés auf einer Party gemalt wurden.

Die 22. DICE-Scheibe "X = Double Two On The DICE Map" ist mittlerweile fast fertig eingespielt. Nur noch bei einem Song fehlen die Gitarren-Arbeit und das entgültige Schlagzeug; danach kommt nur noch der Feinschliff. Erstverkaufstag ist nun der 12. September.

Ghost Medicine

Driven by a need to communicate the indescribable, and drawing on influences ranging from Vaughan Williams to Sigur Ros and Nick Drake, to Meshuggah, Discontinuance is the debut album from Ghost Medicine (the working name of virtuoso Georgia based guitarist and composer Jared Leach). Consisting of seven tracks that explore themes relating to the complex nature of human experience, Discontinuance is an astonishingly mature statement. Demonstrating a deep knowledge of alternate tunings and guitar effects, Leach's expressive guitar work alternates between sensitive layered finger picked acoustic guitars and fiery electric solos. Featuring drummer Scott Prian, bass player extraordinaire Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree/ORk/Tim Bowness) and additional vocals from Sarah Hoefer, Discontinuance is a superb introduction to a potentially major talent.
