The five members, all from Graz, Austria, got together in 2014 and after a short creative period they released their first, self-titled EP in the following year. Originally emerging from Stoner Rock, Ultima Radio combines a variety of aspects in order to define their very own style: the rhythm is guided by Stoner Rock, Progressive Rock and Psychedelic Rock right up to elements of Funk. Influences from Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine create a very dynamic interplay: powerful drum beats and heavy guitar riffs accompany the exotic singing voice through brute and massive, but also calm and smooth parts. The experimental use of the voice also aims at elevating the band’s music out of genre-typical characteristics.

Second Relation

Machines Dream
It’s easy to see that Machines Dream listened to groups like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Marillion, King Crimson and Tool. You can hear these influences in their work, but that’s just the starting point for the band. The goal of Machines Dream is to compose new music, experiment with new sounds and to write meaningful songs that are far more than just tributes to the Prog Rock bands of yesteryear.

Werner Nadolnys Jane
"The Complete Journey" 3-CD-Box-Set.
„The Journey III – Arrival“ liegt nun vor.

Mauricio Ibáñez, musician, songwriter, arranger, guitar player and producer from Santiago, Chile. His musical influences draw from the alternative and progressive rock realms. "Shades of Light & Darkness" is an album that showcases different musical genres and moods. It relates to different aspects of human life such as the sense of wonder, growing up, longing for a long lost friend, dealing with a troubled relationship, success and failure, dealing with insomnia, the immensity of the universe, fighting for your dreams and more. Each one of the songs inhabits a unique sound world. Some songs are lighter in tone and others darker, hence the title Shades of Light & Darkness.

Ergot Project
Ergot Project is the brainchild of Sardinian bassist and producer Christian Marras: it’s a ‘collective’ open to various artistic expressions, meant to have as its sole purpose the total creative anarchy in the creation of new musical productions.
Ergot Project is therefore a kind of ‘factory’ where the working group, directed and supervised by Christian Marras, varies continuously as needed, allowing to expand the boundaries of art and sound experimentation.
On this occasion Ergot Project consists of Christian Marras (Chapman Stick and art direction), Daniela Pes (vocals), Richard Nieddu (guitars), Daniele Pala (drums), Roberto Schirru (drums, synth and programming), Eros Cristiani (Fender Rhodes, synths and programming), Andrea Pica (mix and mastering). The artwork was made by Ombretta Salis.
Curiosity and the desire to deconstruct some historical songs by The Beatles has led to the release of the Project’s debut album, “Beat-less”, in yet another demonstration of the fact that the Fab Four’s compositions are timeless works, that can be adapted and arranged in any musical context. Despite its name, this record finds in the beat, intended as ‘rhythm’, one of its strengths. Melodies and choruses remain perfectly recognizable of course, but everything that revolves around them has been completely revisited in a very personal heavy-electro-prog key. An unexpected and interesting tribute, which amazes at each listen!

Tabula Rasa
Their new record, Crimson, is shimmering artistry. It completely blew me away the first time I heard it. I’m still in awe of it, almost viewing it as a towering musical monument expertly built by a truly gifted band. Think of it as progressive power pop. It rocks and grooves strong with sugary melodies like power pop, but there’s an erratic progressive streak here. Wobbly time signatures. Sensational textural patterns. Abrupt tonal shifts. Conflicting sonic themes. They even somehow make straightaway songs like “Until” and “Unspun” unfurl into these sprawling compositions that are somehow organic and logical. Don’t even get me started on the album closer and title track “Crimson,” — twenty minutes of the band showcasing every last bit of their talent in an epic that would make Pete Townshend blush. This band is just impressive, especially singer Mica Tenenbaum and her commanding voice. She grounds all of these lofty songs and ideas with a mercurial sound that drives the music as much as the proficent drumming. Crimson is a prog introduction for pop lovers, a pop introduction to prog lovers, and a must listen for any music fan out there. (review from "sound-gaze.com")

ARW (Anderson, Rabin & Wakeman)
Long-time YES fans, rejoice! Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman are proud to announce that after a hiatus of 25 years, they are to reform the definitive YES line-up as Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman or simply ARW.
Since they last played together in 1990 on the highly successful YES ‘Union Tour’, there have been various hybrid versions of the band. However, none featured the iconic voice of Jon Anderson, the outstanding guitar talent of Trevor Rabin, and the keyboard wizardry of Rick Wakeman. The aim of the band will be to restore the standard of excellence in performance that they established with their 1990 shows – which saw YES members past and present come together for the first (and only) time of the legendary band’s career. “To be able to sing and perform with Rick and Trevor at this time in my life is a treasure beyond words,” explains Jon. “I’m so excited to create new music and revisit some of the classic work we created many years ago, it’s going to be a musical adventure on so many new levels.” “Trevor and I have wanted to play Yes music together since the Union Tour,” adds Rick. “And as for so many of us, there is no Yes music without Jon. The ‘Holy Trinity of Yes’ is for me, very much a dream come true.” The most successful prog rock group of all time, YES was co-founded by Jon Anderson and the late Chris Squire in 1968 and went on to sell millions of units with releases such as Fragile, Close to The Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans, Going For The One and 90125, as well as embarking on several record-breaking world tours. While Rick is associated with the ’70s “prog era” of the band (which saw YES become a worldwide stadium headliner) and Trevor associated with the ’80s “pop era” of the band (which furthered the band’s popularity – including the band’s biggest chart success), Jon is the bridge between both factions (as he was a member of both eras). Not content to rest on past glory, Jon, Trevor and Rick are working on new songs, which are currently being recorded.
The band will make its live debut in North America in October/November, followed by the Rest of the World in 2017.

Robert Haglund
Now this is curious stuff, I know. Robert Haglund's solo debut album "I Wanna Be Somebody".
Haglund is a Swedish vocalist better known as one of the The Fantastic Four, a popular Swedish vocal quartet which revisit soul, blues, jazz standards and where he plays bass also.
But for his debut Haglund has chosen to cover some hard rock classics in a jazzy mood helped by some well known Rock musicians.
You have Coverdale / Whitesnake staple 'Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City' done in a very slow mood by Haglund crooner vocals helped by Sweden's most famous jazz singer Svante Thuresson in harmony vocals, obtaining an atmosphere proper from a New York intimate jazz club.
Then there's an almost unrecognizable cover of Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' where Bruce Kulick (KISS) provides a great acoustic guitar solo.
Next it's time for a groovy version of 'Don't Believe a Word' (Thin Lizzy) and it's a highlight because Tony Harnell (ex TNT / Skid Row) sings various verses and his vocals are a-we-some. Additionally Kulick delivers another fantastic solo, this time full electric.
It's fun to hear Twisted Sister's 'The Price' done in a ballad form with the presence of Kee Marcello (ex Europe) on guitar, or DIO's 'Holy Diver' going acoustic (!) but it works, believe me.
Other tune is 'You Give Love a Bad Name' (Bon Jovi) as its big-band arrangement fits greatly with the song.
Kulick again and Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot) appear for a very melodic, bluesy take on Kiss' classic 'Love Gun', and for the end Cinderella's drummer Fred Coury collaborate with a rockin' (in this album terms) version of 'Ice Cream Man' (made popular by Van Halen).
It's a lot of fun, and most of these re-arranged classics really work on this format. I'll pass on Motorhead's 'Ace Of Spades', but even with its big-band feeling WASP's 'I Wanna Be Somebody' results enjoyable.
This record turns more and more addictive the more you listen to it...

The Fringe
The Fringe is a new rock trio consisting of Nick D’Virgilio (Spock's Beard): drums & vocals, Jonas Reingold (Karmakanic, The Flower Kings): bass & vocals and Randy McStine (Lo-Fi Resistance): guitars & vocals.
The music on their s/t debut album skirts around the edges of progressive rock, leaning towards the alternative side of Spock’s Beard, or the more populist moments from power trios such as Mr. Big, Rush, or King’s X.
Alternative, progressive, pop, jam band…The Fringe exists at the edge of each of these genres–or, better–at the intersection of them all taken together. Virtuoso musicianship is always on display, and there are plenty of time-signature changes, but the band focuses on driving riffs, melodic hooks, and lots of two- and three-part harmonies.

The Pineapple Thief
The Pineapple Thief's ambitious 2016 studio release, "Your Wilderness".
Musically, the band's 11th studio album represents a marked change in direction and takes TPT away from Magnolia's more 'pop' orientated production.
On Your Wilderness, the band has allowed itself -plus a dream team of contributors - to perform without any inhibitions. Bruce Soord has drawn inspiration from his Progressive roots in order to provide a springboard for the ongoing creative growth of The Pineapple Thief. For the first time, The Pineapple Thief has brought in several special guest performers. Alongside Gavin Harrison (who has gifted some typically brilliant drum parts that have taken TPT into fresh territory), and a four-piece choir, Geoffrey Richardson (Caravan) arranged and recorded string sections, Darran Charles (Godsticks) contributed additional electric guitar work, and Supertramp's John Helliwell performs some beautiful clarinet parts that bring the album to a poignant close. Featuring conceptually sympathetic Carl Glover artwork, lyrically Your Wilderness follows the journey of a parent and child and chronicles love, fear, estrangement and, ultimately, reconciliation as their lives unfold.

Careworn
Careworn is an alternative-rock project that was formed by students John Morishel and Nye James at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield back in 2013. Originally coming from very different musical backgrounds, the project was set up by the two for the purpose of developing their musical collaboration skills. After recording and working on various demo songs together they took to performing a few live acoustic sets at open mic nights around central London, and the project progressed naturally from thereon as they discovered a shared interest in musical direction. They gradually assembled a sufficient amount of material for Careworn throughout the autumn of 2015, collaborating together on songs they had written at various points in the previous five years. Nye took care of the drums, keyboard/piano and the bulk of the guitar recording for the material and John provided main vocals and tracked some supporting acoustic guitar parts. Their housemate, Matt Good, was also later recruited to track bass and the music was all recorded and produced at the trio’s university home over the course of several months spanning from late 2015 through to the following February. The debut album, entitled "The Hill", was released in March 2016. "The Hill" is a collection of alternative rock songs themed around being unable to beat personal foibles, bad relationships, isolation and depression. The album generally gets darker in tone as it progresses, with influences ranging from Ben Howard to Porcupine Tree.

Nosound
Nosound’s fifth album marks a major departure and includes guest appearances from Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh and acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti.
Inspired by personal upheaval and a desire for change, "Scintilla" is an emotionally complex and musically direct work presenting a stripped-down set of compositions that mark a major departure from Nosound’s trademark symphonic lushness and production precision.
After a decade of crafting a very particular type of widescreen melancholia and wistful imagery, Nosound’s fifth studio album "Scintilla" introduces a wholly new musical and visual approach for Giancarlo Erra’s ever-evolving band.
Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh lends his distinctive vocals to two of the album’s tracks, and cellist Marianne De Chastelaine returns once more to the Nosound fold. Acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti co-writes and sings on the serene Sogno E Incendio.

Aisles
Aisles ia a six-piece prog rock band originally from Santiago, Chile.
The group was formed in 2001 by brothers Germán (guitar) and Luis Vergara (keyboards), and childhood friend Rodrigo Sepúlveda (guitar). Later on, it expanded to include lead singer Sebastián Vergara and Alejandro Meléndez (keyboards). Drummer Felipe Candia and bassist Daniel Baird-Kerr joined the band in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
Their soulfully crafted combination of rock, progressive rock, art rock, fusion, world music and other styles illustrates the band's unique liberal and eclectic music vision.
Aisles have been regarded as Prog Rock, but their approach to music goes far beyond that while creating a very powerful and unique type of music and sound.
Due to the release of their fourth studio album "Hawaii" it's time to bring their music to your attention with this free compilation.

The Natural Mystic
The Natural Mystic are another young band from the rich Italian scene.
The influence of the "Rock Progressivo Italiano" is evident - the band is
often citing soundscapes from the movement's heyday, their sound will
love every fan of 70's prog - and yet they're highly innovative, fresh
and quite unique.
Art Rock showing a plurality of styles but never
forcing it.
Comparing this guys to Yes, Genesis and Camel won't help you a lot, indeed the sound of 70's symphonic prog is evident, but their smooth textures are defying easy categorization; there's also a hint of early King Crimson and evident Jethro Tull throw in for a good measure, and their sound is their own.
Their one and only album so far "Mother nature, the trees and the magic of seasons" consists of four long suites dealing with seasons and was already released in 2006, but I have to say this is a highly recommended band.

Ghost Medicine
Driven by a need to communicate the indescribable, and drawing on influences ranging from Vaughan Williams to Sigur Ros and Nick Drake, to Meshuggah, Discontinuance is the debut album from Ghost Medicine (the working name of virtuoso Georgia based guitarist and composer Jared Leach). Consisting of seven tracks that explore themes relating to the complex nature of human experience, Discontinuance is an astonishingly mature statement. Demonstrating a deep knowledge of alternate tunings and guitar effects, Leach's expressive guitar work alternates between sensitive layered finger picked acoustic guitars and fiery electric solos. Featuring drummer Scott Prian, bass player extraordinaire Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree/ORk/Tim Bowness) and additional vocals from Sarah Hoefer, Discontinuance is a superb introduction to a potentially major talent.

TCP (Temporal Chaos Project)
TCP, or Temporal Chaos Project, is one of the fresh bands worthy of being mentioned these days, apparently edging out with a good amount of acclaim, while mainly tagged within the progressive rock aesthetic boundaries, drenching the classic 70s influences and traits, but also displaying the fairly obvious modern sound and vigor. After a prolonged five year episode of life-gets-in-the-way, TCP enthusiastically comes back with their third release, "Temporal Chaos".

LelKem

Third Edge
Third Edge hailing with their brilliant debut album "T.I.M.E.".
40 years after the release of Rush’s epic album 2112, the rock band Third Edge releases the album "T.I.M.E." that continues the story. In the year 2132 on a distant refugee planet governed by totalitarian priests, a once-orphaned boy discovers his biological father was murdered by the very priests who raised him. The execution prevented a potential revolution after discovering the free-thinking power of earth music, and the possibility of revealing a galactic-wide conspiracy over the millennia to overtake all life-producing planets. The young man then seeks revenge on the priests. He also discovers that his father, prior to his death, hid the secret to their escape from bondage in a song. This ‘song of Anonymous’ entitled ‘T.I.M.E.’ (Tomorrow Is Man’s Escape) contained the prophetic melody used by his son to bring as many as would listen to the final conclusion of destroying the Federation, return the rising generation of their people back to their homeland Earth, and reuniting with the elder race in a restored paradisiacal state.

Huis
Huis ("home doors" in french, and "house" in dutch) is a five member musical project from Québec officially formed by Pascal Lapierre and Michel Joncas at the end of 2009, after an oustanding and inspiring trip in the Netherlands.
At that time, they decided to put on tape some ideas they had in mind since a long time. Over time, three other talented musicians, William Régnier, Sylvain Descôteaux and Michel St-Père (from Mystery), joined the band, each one bringing a special touch to Huis’ sound.
The music is a well crafted progressive rock with a symphonic touch and
the use of Hammond, Moog and Mellotron takes us back to the old prog
rock sound of the 70's. The guitar playing of St-Pere brings a big
influence of the Neo-Prog band Mystery and many others Neo-Prog bands
that put the melody and vocals upfront with strong compositions skills.
